Just When Genomic Science Is Graduating To Neuroscience Republican Dr. Ben Carson Shocks President Obama
Baltimore MD ( AP ) Barron’s Medical Journal is concerned the John Wayne of neurosurgery Dr. Ben Carson is running for GOP United States President , Just before President Obama announces The (B.A.M Breast Activity Mapping) project to Congress for funding. To the medical community surprise Dr. Ben Carson, longtime director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, announced Saturday 17, 2013 that he will retire this summer and suggested he could pursue a future in politics, An internationally renowned physician, Carson focuses on traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, and neurological and congenital disorders. He was the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins.
Carson has authored more than 100 neurosurgical publications, along with three best-selling books—one, "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story," was made into a television movie—and has been awarded 38 honorary doctorate degrees and dozens of national merit citations. Dr. Benjamin Carson is the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Carson focuses on traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynostosis, epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia. He is also interested in maximizing the intellectual potential of every child.
Dr. Carson served as senior registrar in neurosurgery at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Queen Elizabeth II Medical Center in Western Australia. Growing up in Michigan Carson left Detroit for Yale, Carson eventually found his way to John Hopkins, where he became one of the world’s most preeminent neurosurgeons, gaining international acclaim in 1987 for performing the first separation of twins conjoined at the head. He is held as an African-American hero. Speaking at the 2013 Republican prayer breakfast, Dr. Carson finished his remarks at the prayer breakfast, the usually loquacious Vice President Biden sat next to the physician but had little to say from that point on, Carson pointed out.
The Science community is looking forward with excitement about genomic science is now going to graduate to neuroscience. Yes neuroscience, President Obama said in the State Of The Union Address For “Every dollar we invested to map the human genome returned $140 to our economy — every dollar,” he said. “Today our scientists are mapping the human brain to unlock the answers to Alzheimer’s. They’re developing drugs to regenerate damaged organs, devising new materials to make batteries 10 times more powerful. Now is not the time to gut these job-creating investments in science and innovation.”
A meeting held on Jan. 17 at the California Institute of Technology was attended by the three government agencies, as well as neuroscientists, nanoscientists and representatives from Google, Microsoft and Qualcomm. According to a summary of the meeting, it was held to determine whether computing facilities existed to capture and analyze the vast amounts of data that would come from the project. The scientists and technologists concluded that they did. The U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, recently developed a publicly accessible Internet-based collection of data which identifies a region in the brain where thousands of gene-regulating elements necessary for cognition, motor functions are emotions are found. Axel Visel, a geneticist with Berkeley Lab's Genomics Division who worked on the latter project, referred to it as "a genome-wide digital atlas of gene enhancers in the human brain."

Organizations behind the project include the Office of Science and Technology Policy, The National Institutes of Health, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the National Science Foundation, as well as several private foundations the president will allot a total of at least $3 billion over the next 10 years. Barron Medical Journal is advising The State Of Texas To reinstate the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. Texas can play important role in The Brain Activity Map Project and create millions of jobs for Texans.
Texas House and Senate budget bills provide no money for new grants by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, the target of multiple investigations following revelations of procedural problems and conflicts of interest related to multimillion-dollar grants it has awarded. Barrons Medical Journal what is at stake science can take giant step forward to cure several diseases if both President Obama and Ben Carson work together on the BAM project.
